Hello and Happy New Year to all pick wranglers and mandolinists. I am always amazed at how wonderful an instrument the mandolin is and how there is always so much more to learn no matter how long you continue to play. It's an ongoing
adventure and I learn as much as anyone when teaching a course online or at a camp. On that "note" I want to share the details for some classes soon to begin...
Erynn and I are looking forward to starting our next round of our Online Music Classes soon in the new year. We really enjoy being a part of everyone’s learning journey and the interaction is always fun and much appreciated. We’re starting the 3rd week in January. Early-Int. Fiddle, Int+-Adv Fiddle, Int+ Mandolin, Int. Back-up Guitar will be offered. Each 6 week class meets once a week.
It will be great to see everyone again at our group classes sharing a lot of great tunes, tips, and some stories sprinkled in for good measure!
Here's the info:
Early-Int OT Fiddle (Erynn) Sats 11am -12pm ET Jan 22–Feb 26
Int+/Adv OT Fiddle (Erynn) Sats 3:30-4:30pm Jan 22 – Feb 26
Int+ Guitar Back-Up (Carl) Sats 1pm - 2pm ET Jan 22 – Feb 26
Int + Mandolin (Carl) Tuesdays: 7pm-8pm ET Jan 25 – Mar 1
Each group class meets online for an hour a week for 6 weeks on Zoom. Videos of all classes will be recorded and archived so you can miss a class and watch later if you'd like. Some people in far-flung time zones like to take the class entirely by video. Pdfs of Fiddle music & Mandolin/Guitar music / tab will be provided. Participants are given access to a class folder of all the music/tab/video links. You can download all class videos /music /tab onto your own computer for review. Cost per 6 session class is $75-$125 (sliding scale: pay what you can). Canadian's can pay the same prices in CAD. We cover technique pro-tips, old-time style, bowing, picking prowess, great tunes and some interesting background on some of our favorite, traditional players! There is also a fun, community vibe in these group classes which everyone needs right now and we enjoy too! To register just tell us what class you'd like to join by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and make your payment via paypal, venmo, or check. paypal.me/dittyville www.venmo.com/dittyville (276-237-6866). If you have any questions feel free to drop us a line at email@example.com Hope you can join us! Started playing guitar and writing songs at the age of ten after seeing Roy Rogers pick and sing on television. Played in a bluegrass band while in college in North Alabama and started going to many festivals and fiddlers conventions. This was the onset of what has to become a life-long pursuit-- learning traditional fiddle music and making up "ditties". This led to study of banjo, mandolin, guitar and fiddle and touring as part of The Rising Fawn String Ensemble with James Bryan and Norman and Nancy Blake. In the past decade, I've been part of a singing duo with Beverly Smith and taught at many music camps around the country and abroad. I have had songs recorded by The Nashville Bluegrass Band, Rickie Simpkins, Kate Campbell, and others. I tour occasionally as part of The Haints String Band (Jason and Pharis Romero with Erynn Marshall) and sometimes as a duo w/ Erynn Marshall. I also am lucky enough to have opportunities to join w/ Bruce Greene, Don Pedi, and Rob Hinson as they meander through some great old Kentucky tunes. In 2011, I am touring with James Bryan and once again teaching mandolin, songwriting etc. at workshops and camps around the country.
