Started playing guitar and writing songs at the age of ten after seeing Roy Rogers pick and sing on television. Played in a bluegrass band while in college in North Alabama and started going to many festivals and fiddlers conventions. This was the onset of what has to become a life-long pursuit-- learning traditional fiddle music and making up "ditties". This led to study of banjo, mandolin, guitar and fiddle and touring as part of The Rising Fawn String Ensemble with James Bryan and Norman and Nancy Blake. In the past decade, I've been part of a singing duo with Beverly Smith and taught at many music camps around the country and abroad. I have had songs recorded by The Nashville Bluegrass Band, Rickie Simpkins, Kate Campbell, and others. I tour occasionally as part of The Haints String Band (Jason and Pharis Romero with Erynn Marshall) and sometimes as a duo w/ Erynn Marshall. I also am lucky enough to have opportunities to join w/ Bruce Greene, Don Pedi, and Rob Hinson as they meander through some great old Kentucky tunes. In 2011, I am touring with James Bryan and once again teaching mandolin, songwriting etc. at workshops and camps around the country.
