I was asked about what mandolin(s) I play.
I have SIX mandolins that I enjoy playing. My Gibson A-body from the 1920s is my go-to mandolin. If I need a mellow tone or something a little different I play my Weber octave mandolin. If I need a good bass sound (and I do mean bass) I go to my Gibson 1908 mandocello -- it is tuned like a cello; can be plucked or have full chords strummed (attributes not attributed to a standard cello) plus it looks pretty darn cool. I also enjoy playing my 1920s Kay mandolin and my Schwarzer 1890 mandolin (both tuned a full step below pitch for special tunes). When I'm outdoors and need SOUND I use my Recording King resonator mandolin (see my icon) -- that thing can B-L-A-S-T when need be (like when a train is going by).
But the Gibson A-body is my favorite -- and I'm only the second owner (at the right place at the right time).
Then there are my three guitars ...
And all nine of these instruments have names (Gabby is my Gibson mandolin and Rufus is my Kay mandolin). And they each have their own personality.
Time to go enjoy their various personalities.
peace

I'm a well-educated hillbilly living in east central Missouri. I've been playing music for almost, eek, 50 years; added the mandolin about 4 years ago.
