Teaching Gypsy Tunes and Making A Spectacle Of Myself

Posted by TeachinMandolin444 on Wednesday, July 9, 2014

The heat of summer is on....and when I'm not playing,I'm pondering my garden for Fall. I just picked up some Burpee marigold & gourd seeds. Never grew gourds before,so this should be awesome-and I'll have Fall decor!

My prescription glasses (both indoor and sunglasses) should be ready for pickup early next week. I have a friend on social media who,in her mid 20's,has managed to wreck her eyes by not wearing her contact lenses responsibly. She's done a lot of damage to her corneas, retinas, got an infection on the inside of the eyelids. By her own admission, she did this out of sheer vanity. Luckily,I had an optometry appointment after she shared all this, so I asked my eye Dr how many hours a day should one wear contacts. She told me no more than 12 hours a day. I never knew this.

My eyes are healthy, but I usually wore lenses for longer than 12 hours,up till that visit anyhow. I've worn contacts steady since I was 18. I'm 50 now,so decided right then & there to get back into glasses-one thing nice about being older is A: technology has advanced making my lenses much much thinner than when I was a teen (coke bottle bottom glasses) and B: I have the maturity and the self confidence that I don't feel like a "nerd" going back to glasses. While I'll still wear lenses,I'm cutting way back on how much I wear them.

I've started teaching gypsy (not to be confused with gypsy jazz) music on mandolin! So if you're interested give me a holler. :-)
