Ever wonder how well in-case humidifiers work?
Several years ago, I acquired several small, high-quality hygrometers (Onset HOBO) for work. In the test and calibration phase, I placed two inside my mandolin case: one probe in the body/sound box, and one in the case but outside the instrument. The mandolin body contained a commercial humidifying device, which was wetted once each week. A third probe was exposed in the room where I kept the mandolin.
I collected humidity data from each probe for several weeks in the winter. I also collected data from my nearby airport ASOS. Sadly the probe data were destroyed. And then my office was moved, so the probes were misplaced.
BUT...I recently located my instruments, and they all still work.
I think I need to re-do this little experiment. More to come...
