Mandolin Goals for 2019 (MandoTom2)...

In the area I live and teach, you would think there would be a lot of acoustic music students to be had. Not so, I found out... Down here in southeast Missouri (about an hour south of St. Louis), there are plenty of possums, armadillos, skunks, deer and the like, but you won't find a whole lot in the way of students...

So, when one comes along, I do everything I can to get 'em going and keep 'em happy...

Last year in 2018 and the very beginning of 2019, I had 1 (count 'em), 1 mandolin student. He came from a family where many cousins, aunts, uncles and grand parents played sometimes several instruments each.

Well, this young fellow (who was about 8 years old), was interested in the mandolin.

He looked like a scholarly fellow with his glasses.

He worked very hard at the mandolin and was making excellent progress for his first year...

I got sick with my heart issue and had to stop teaching for 5 months...

Once I got back, I resumed lessons with this young man and others on other instruments...

We were just barely getting back into it and he broke his arm in a very bad way (compound fracture)...

That was the end of him in lessons for a while.

I decided not to get too dis-heartened and decided to put maximum effort into continuing my arranging for mandolin IN SPITE OF THE FACT that I no longer had a one-student mandolin audience for those arrangements...

I used the Mando Hangout as my 'audience', if you will, and kept at the arranging...

I think there were 450 arrangements on this site then (which included a fair number of my previous posted arrangements)...

I've been cranking away at producing arrangements fairly intensely for the last 9 months since I returned to teaching and lost the young mandolin picker.

The Mando Hangout's tab library now has 961 tabs, partly as a result of my efforts...

Last year (2018), I managed to get the Christmas mandolin arrangements up to 60.

This year, I am hoping to get the Christmas mandolin arrangements up to 100 and the total site count up to 1000.

At the rate I've been producing, I fully believe it is possible.

That is my current goal and I will be working diligently towards it...
