"Sultans of Swing" followed by "Your Wildest Dreams"
Rock on....
phiddlepicker - Posted - 05/10/2014: 16:25:07
When you play Sultans of Swing....do you play the double stops and leads a la Knofler's version transcribed to Mando? I play some of those licks on guitar but never tried to transcribe them to Mando. They probably sound great.
Izzat the Moody's "Wildest Dreams"?
SteveZ - Posted - 05/10/2014: 18:32:05
For Sultans of Swing I take the easy way out and rhythm it most if the way since I enjoy doing the vocals as well. Tabbing it, the intro lead can be pulled off as Am-F-E, followed by Am-G-E, Am-G-E, C-G, F-Dm-Am, Am-G, Am-G, Am-F-E. Add whatever runs you want along the way, but I find that if I do vocals too, then I get lost when I try to get too flashy. I use the same tabs with tenor guitar as well. It does get a bit clumsy with tenor banjo.
Yep, Moody Blues had some interesting stuff.

Had a MandoBird VIII for a while and experimented with a few twists, but just was not quick enough. Have learned my limits and and happy to let others do the "down the neck" stuff.

I heard Jim Glasser do "Lights of Albuquerque" the other day on Marty Stuart's show and I've been working on that. Great song and though he must be pushing 80 he's an astounding singer..

Wheel Hoss and/or Brown County Breakdown, can't remember which order they were in.
SteveZ - Posted - 07/03/2014: 18:25:31
Been working on "It's still Rock 'n Roll to me" and think I finally got it. Not great, but the dog doesn't howl any more during the bridge....
phiddlepicker - Posted - 07/04/2014: 12:42:18

I worked up a variation on Southern Flavor. Where is there a recorded version of Knoxville Stomp?
SteveZ - Posted - 07/11/2014: 07:00:26

SteveZ - Posted - 08/10/2014: 13:02:38
Quiet time...was fooling around with a couple Jimmy Cliff numbers (Wonderful World, I Can See Clearly Now) while watching the ball game (Go Rays!).
phiddlepicker - Posted - 08/23/2014: 08:20:32
I learned Brian Boru's march as a fiddle tune.....got it adapted now I think to mandolinize it with the proper drones and double stops

It was a fun night that included the Limeliter gem "Generic Up-Tempo Folk Song" into the mix.

I'm posting this on Sunday but the first think I played yesterday was "Georgia Red Clay Dirt Road," one of our band's compositions. Our band did in the Ironwood Lounge at the Lodge and Spa of Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
Yes, that was a very blatant plug for us.

What's wrong with that?

Been working on some old Eagles/Henley tunes (Heartache Tonight, Tequila Sunrise and Heart Of The Matter). Keeping all instruments tuned fifths makes transition easier.
Donnie - Posted - 11/15/2014: 12:39:21
Garry Owen on my '60 Martin "A" it's kind'a made to play this style of tune!
