Unlike, e.g, Pike County Breakdown and Bluegrass Breakdown this Monroe tune was conceived (with the help of Lamaar Grier) for the banjo from the very beginning. It's in g minor. In the first part I mainly lock my index on the fifth fret and imitate the notes played by Vic Jordan on the banjo; the second part is played in 1st position. My version is faster than Monroe's 1968 version. I play the guitar uncapoed, so as to allow a slide into the g minor chord, and a rake across the bottom four strings. The last chorus features some split course tremolo on the mandolin.
