I've been playing mandolin since i was 9, guitar since 11, & banjo off/on since 14. Growing up on Cape Breton Island on the far east coast of Canada . The island is made of of Scottish, Irish, British, & French who started settling here in the 1500's as well as Mikmaq natives who were the first settlers here. Music is a big part of our culture and is known as east coast music or Celtic and usually there is at least 1 guitar but usually 2 -3, a fiddle & or a mandolin, sometimes an accordian or a harmonica ,spoons, foot stomping and hand clapping,& singing. locally known as a Kitchen Party cause thats where they'd take place.
