Played bluegrass music off and on since I was about 12, I'm experiencing one of my "on" phases right now. Hadn't owned a mandolin in about 20 years, so I decided to try to get back into it. Actually, I kept having recurring dreams about purchasing a mandolin... in each one my girlfriend was complaining about the cost. So I made my dream come true... I purchased 2 mandolins and my girlfriend complained about the cost. Dreams into reality. I'm trying to work out of some of the Homespun Series of Mandolin DVD's. Right now I'm hitting the "Mike Marshall's Arpeggio Workout for Mandolin" and Sam Bush's "Bluegrass Mandolin Method". Most of the thing's I've learned on fiddle are transferring over fairly well. Although most of the musicians I listed under "favorite bands/musicians" are all bluegrass, I really listen to just about all styles of music, with a tendency to lean toward world folk and world fusion styles. Caught an episode of "The Full Set" (http://www.rte.ie/tv/thefullset/ep2.html) with Mike McGoldrick and Dezi Donnelly, which was completely amazing. I checked out some of McGoldrick's CD's (Fused, Aurora, First Light, Wired) and really liked how he mixed Irish traditional music with modern influences. Right now, I'm mostly listening to McGoldrick, Sierra Hull, and Sarah Jarosz. Other than that, I'm pursuing my PhD in Biomedical Science at the University of Central Florida. Not much else to say......
