I just left Owensboro, Kentucky, where I attended the Bill Monroe Centennial Celebration held at the International Bluegrass Music Museum. It was a three day festival attended by some true bluegrass legends, including many of Monroe's Bluegrass Boys. The high point of the trip however, was a short road trip south to Rosine, Kentucky. At Rosine I was able to visit the grave site of Bill Monroe as well as Pendleton Vandiver, the inspiration for the Monroe classic "Uncle Pen."
Just a few miles south of Rosine is the Bill Monroe homestead, the house Monroe lived in as a child and where his musical career started. After a personal tour by a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, I was able to sit on the front porch and play Blue Moon Of Kentucky on my mandolin. I can't think of very many things cooler than that.

I primarily play the mandolin and fiddle in a local bluegrass band, The Mustang Ramblers. I enjoy going to bluegrass festivals and playing on stage and in jams.
