I have been a member of this Form for some time now and I have had mixed feelings about the quality of the forum and the content, or sometimes the lack of quality content.  However, I have to wonder if the moderators pay any attention to the content being posted here.  I continue to see postings that have no mandolin content and often no music related content at all.  There has been a ad in the classifieds for 40 days now for a Toyota Camery and recently there is a posting for a Samsung Galaxy phone.  How does this stuff stay posted and not get pulled?  I have contacted the moderators about this a few times and only once have I received a response.  People can say what they want about the Mandolin Cafe, but the moderators do their job and do it well.  This kind of stuff makes me less and less interested in this site every day.

Hey TI_USER.  I noticed those too.

Do we even have moderators, like the BHO or FHO?  Perhaps the time has come for Eric to have some help?

What upsets me more than anything is that I have sent emails to Eric and clicked on the "Report to Moderator" function and get no action or even a response.  How does a ad for a car stay in the Classifieds for 40 days?  I don't get it.

There are no moderators on this forum.  If you click on report to moderator, you'll see that there is no one to contact except Eric.

I have never had a problem getting information to Eric -- just PM or e-mail him and he usually takes care of whatever needs to be taken care of.

I'll check out the classifieds and let him know there's spam in there.

In the event that someone wanted to carry their mandolin over a long distance they may find that they need a car. They might decide to call ahead so they need a phone. "Classifieds" is full service here apparently. Anyplace that someone can find a place to advertise they will. I'm finding little advertisements in the corners of my TV screen trying to distract me from the show I,m watching, clothing with the name of the maker in bold letters completely across it. I personally refuse to wear any clothing that has a visible logo unless someone is willing to pay me to wear it, which ,so far, no one has made that offer..What's the surprise that weird ads would show up here if no one is saying they can't do that? I think we should take advantage of the fact that no one is watching and go into subject matter that would be censored on the Cafe. T shell anyone?

Spam. Simple as that.  They want you to email them and they get your personal info.

The problem is that the posting guidlines clearly say that it's not OK, but if no one checks, then what's the point in having guidelines?

Both the car ad and the phone ad has been removed. Seems that it took some complaining about the moderators to get it done.

I come here, in part, to escape such topics.  Though you are right.  I'm surprised that topics like tortoise shell (and Blue Chip picks, and A- vs. F-style, and whether Bill would play it like that, and...) don't show up here more often...

Traffic may be light here and an ad may pop up from time to time, but the content is a bit less predictable.  Refreshing, in my opinion.

I find this a comfortable, friendly forum. I am not easily offended by mindless, or improper posts. I *think* monitoring is a job for us all. Just ignore what you don't like, or sound off. Don't blame Eric.
I play this post in B flat minor.

Stalag 13 or Paradise Island - I choose to post on a site that is more accepting of its members. You can surf through every post on this site and find things that don't work for you. I agree with the former post that until it gets out of control, you have a ability to not pay attention to it. That's a heck of a lot better than a moderator looking over your shoulder for every move you make.
