Truthfully, I got bored with this site. I was tired of checking the forum every day and seldom ever seeing anything new. And, it's not just recently. Almost every time I'd sign in the newest post in the forum was posted 35 hours ago or 65 hours ago or something like that. The Classifieds have maybe one or two posts per day. There's probably an average of 25 per day on MC. There's more posts on MC's Forum in one day the this site has on two weeks. I would love to see both be successful, but if the Hangout is going to work, it has to offer something more than MC does.

I have been staying on mandolin cafe because no one posts here. The banjo hangout on the other hand is where I live online and even the fiddle hangout seems a lot busier. I had a post about my "new" mandolin that is like four months old now that is still a top thread over on the buying instruments thread.

I joined here about a month ago from the BHO and just recently picked up the mandolin. So I thought I would interact with some mando players where I might learn some more of this thing. I love the sound. I don't know of any song that I've listened to with a mando in it that didn't sound good to me. Especially like the chops for backup just seems to fill the void, if that makes any sense. But this site is real quite. I'll do my best to help fill some gaps.

Hope i don't get slated for chipping in as a new boy, but i've always been a big believer in "being the change you want to see".

A site is only as good as the content the users provide, and there is truly some great stuff here. Maybe thats because i'm new and theres lots to read, i don't know.

Theres also a distinct difference between quantity and quality. I'm not talking about Mando Cafe versus Hangout, i mean with any site.....just because a place is busier, has more people or more posts, it doesn't go to say that there is a higher quality in any of those.

Looking at the suggestions/ideas section, no-one has posted since July 2010....that would say to me or most site owners that people are pretty pleased with everything at present.

Just my personal opinion, to me this place looks friendly and informative. Also, not everyone likes the Mando Cafe or other mandolin forums, some are totally dead and you wait days for a reply to any post.

I've said the same thing on a thread in another forum though, it's good that this is being discussed, it shows people care about a place and want to see it do well. Thats the kind of people i want to be around whilst i'm learning mandolin, not people who fight, moan and bring a place down.

I went away for a week and nothing much new happened here in that time. I had some access to a computer and did check this site a couple of times. There seems to be not much follow through.Someone posts a topic and then seems to go away and has nothing else to say I guess. No banter,no thread ,I think. Even a good ***** and moan beats nothing and a so does a good old brawl. I've made some comments on some threads that I though might get someone fired up but they fizzle out almost immediately. Not that that is what I'm looking for but I would like to get into things over and above picks and strings.

Or maybe he was taking the bait...That guy was having a bad day ---there was something else he went after ----OCD thread I think --I thought maybe it was cat trouble. Mandolin strings make pretty good snare wires by the way! I use them for gophers myself and definitely prefer the j74's. You need to use the heavier strings for anything larger,like a cat,maybe. Haven't tried that but the neighbors cat decided my lettuce patch made a pretty good litter box---after considering maybe converting a harp guitar to be able to shoot an arrow I decided that maybe it would be better to just fence it out. Anyone know the tab to "Don't Fence Me In?......

I have been a member of the Mando hangout since it started, came here from the BHO several years ago.  I'm not sure why it says I only joined in 8/11.  I'm not smart enough to ask many questions or have enough experience to really offer much worthwhile. Although I am digging my Golden Gates!

I sold my banjo to pay for a mandolin. I don't really miss it at all. Well, not too much. I may a setup question in a few days when I receive a replacement bridge for my Kentucky KM-72. I think I was confusing the Mando Hangout with the Flatpicker's Hangout. I was a beta tester on that site.

If you want to keep the forums interesting, try starting interesting threads that people will enjoy replying to.

I check here just about every day, and look at what is posted and if its something I can comment on I do, seems like there is not much going on at any of the hangouts other that the banjo one, Mandolin Cafe has a lot of posts every day, may just take time to get this one going.
