I'm looking into a pickup for my Breedlove Quartz OF. I use K&K on my guitars. Does anyone have any experience with their mando p/u? Does anyone have another brand to reccomend? What about preamps/DI's?

I don't have a whole lot of experience in this area, but I currently have a shadow SH 926 (shadow-electronics.com/viewpro...id=&id=42) piezo bridge pickup on my mandolin, whilst it is an improvement on an old schaller oyster that I used to use, it still doesn't sound very natural to me. That said, I believe it should go through a pre-amp, but I currently route it through an overdrive pedal with the volume up but the drive off. It works fine, I just don't really like the tone.
I would much prefer an internal pickup as I don't like the cable that runs from the bridge to the little volume and tone control that sticks to velcro on the strap.

I'm a little surprised and disappointed in the lack of response. I guess the true mandolinists either don't use or need pickups. I can't imagine they don't have them in their guitars.

I think that this forum is still quite new, and therefore a little on the quiet side, It may be worth searching through the threads on Mandolin Cafe, I'm pretty sure there has been some discussion over there about pickups.

I've heard that new LR Baggs mandolin pick-up is pretty good. I havn't had the chance to fool with it first hand though.

I've had such good luck with K&K on my guitars I'll probably go with them anyway.
