I always use the standard tuninhg (GDAE), though for some songs I've tried the cross-A tuning (AEAE).
Anyway, I don't like to change tunings much...
And you? And what tunings do y'all like to use and for what tunes?

I've "cross-tuned" the fiddle for various tunes, but never the mandolin.
I stick to the EE-AA-DD-GG tuning on the mandolin. ![]()

I always use standard tuning on mandolin.
Bill Monroe had two mandolins on stage with him, one being referred to as his "Uncle Pen"
mandolin, tuned specially for that particular song. I don;t know what that tuning was.

The problem about changing mandolin tunings is that there are 8 strings instead of 4, so it takes more time to re-tune it...
