I like ideas for improvement--post them here if you've got 'em!
ccravens - Posted - 12/22/2010: 17:00:21
Eric,
All you need now is getting the word out about the site.
I'll do my part.
Do you think it'd be uncouth to advertise it on the mandocafe?
Gary Watkins - Posted - 12/22/2010: 22:18:02
Can you use a mandolin with "F" holes instaed of the oval hole for your logo? Just thought that I would ask. If you have a players union here, I would like to join. What are the qualifications to become a moderator?
dmiller - Posted - 12/22/2010: 22:24:57
My mando has an oval hole instead of the "F" holes. And it's a vintage Gibson.
(It's pictured in my avatar)

Flatpicker Hangout has no moderators.
Maybe we could try that out here for a while.
dmiller - Posted - 12/22/2010: 23:06:13
Flatpickers and mandolin pickers aren't going to be "arguing" about tone rings/ heads/ tuners/ tailpieces/ etc.
That's a good idea CCravens.

Thanks for the New hanout, It is great to go to one site for for several instruments rather than several site for one instrument.

The logo isn't final at this point... still trying to come up with something that suits my fancy.
We probably won't have moderators right away, but we'll see how it goes. Eventually every successful forum needs mods.

Great new site, thanks for starting it! Now, if only there will be regular contests with prizes like the BHO...
schlange - Posted - 12/24/2010: 21:17:55
Once the site gets popular enough, we'll certainly do as many drawings as we can! I like giving stuff away.
Jim Yates - Posted - 12/25/2010: 15:03:43
Here's a vote to keep the oval hole mandolin on the home page.
Maybe you should wait a while to see what styles the members are interested in before deciding on forum topics. My interests are jug band/blues, Irish, English, Scots fiddle tunes, old timey music, swing and bluegrass. I'd like to learn some Lithuianian and Serbian folk tunes as well.

Let us hope that this sight doesn't get like Resonator guitar!!!! That sight is domanated by a couple of guys way to much swearing and WAY to many topics that have little to do with playing . Lets play nice and keep this sight to Mandolins playing upkeep and enjoying Play nice and often and Happy Holidays to one and all

Can we start out by banning certain FHO members from the get go?
lol jk

Hi Eric,
Is it possible to have some sort of listing for Bluegrass Festivals & places that feature Bluegrass music? I live in Texas and visit relatives in Kentucky at least once a year. We have friends there that take us to a lot of musical events, including Bill Monroe's home town. There must be some in Texas and other states.

Eric,
Would it be possible to add a way to have a signature? Ya know, something that makes your post unique like your name or a quote or saying?

All signatures on all the hangouts were nixed about a year ago. Not sure why, but that's the fact.

Great site. How about a "sound off" heading and "old time" in the style of music when posting tunes.

Great site. And seems to be growing and starting off well even before officially opening.
Any chance of making the RSS buttons smaller or more out of the way? I keep hitting them accidentally when selecting which forum to visit from the 'Mandolin Related Topics' page.
paire-berline - Posted - 12/31/2010: 07:23:30
As mentioned above, an up-to-date comprehensive listing of bluegrass festivals would be a great service to the members.

Thanks for this Forum! Looks good so far. What about a "Welcome" page for members to introduce themselves? pardon me if there is one already in place and I have just missed it ;)

X2 Thanks for the site.
Only problem is since I found it last night I've been using up precious practice time on threads and vids instead of playing.

I have found this site very refreshing and easy to get around in and and plan to spend alot of time here as I love the mandolin and the music it produces. Now I have got to play better.

I'm not trying to be critical, and I think that Eric has probably asked one member to download a bunch of youtube mando videos, but I'm hoping there's an end in site. While I appreciate all the hundreds of youtube videos being loaded onto the site, real members that actually joined here are posting videos that are getting lost amid the avalanche of youtube dumping. I'm not speaking of myself, but other members' videos that I've seen.
I'm very interested in what other members are doing/playing on videos they post. I can praise their performance, talk/ask about their videos and songs, and increase member participation. If I want youtube videos, I can go to their site to see them. I'm worried that the youtube dumping discourages members from putting their videos up, since they figure that almost noone will see them in between the avalanche of youtubes. Do we really need every youtube video under the sun that has ANYTHING to do with mandolins? I'm concerned that his will discourage actual members from posting, IMHO. Just wondering if there's an end in site. More members being able to participate will only increase site traffic. Eric wanted ideas for the site, so that's why I'm writing.
Thanks for listening!

If the posts within a thread were NUMBERED, it would make it easier to refer other posters to a specific post when answering a question.
E.g. "See the thread on tremolo and look at post # 9"
Thanks.

I can think of 2 improvements if they're possible.
#1 a Players Union option like BHO of supporting the site.
#2 The ability to link between BHO and MHO Homepage (photo's, Vids, MP3), Groups, etc.
Thanks

I may get booted off this site, but here goes. If you have a drawing, let us know who the winner is. When you get a private message, please answer back. It is just common respect. Now, I'll wait to get my notice that I am not welcome here any longer.
