What are the best tuning machine replacements for a 1920 Gibson a4 mandolin.
It might be better to get them rebuilt. Stew Mac has tuners that will work but I have found them to be marginal at best. The post spacing is the limiting factor. Perhaps Rubner has a set that will work. Their cheapest set is still better than what Stew Mac is peddling these days.
Rubner specializes in tuners for old Gibsons. I got a set for my 1920s snakehead. They're a perfect fit and work great. They offer various levels of bling and price but are all mechanically identical.
