Thanks! I actually got to use it at a jam yesterday, and it was great. Can't wait to get some tunes down and show people what this mando can actually do.

So was it able to hold it's own in a jam?

Well, I just play back up for now. But it sounded alright. Still learning to play a decent chop chord, but for what I know it was fine. As long as I was confident with strumming, my little Loar fit in just fine.

yeah I'm thinking about a back-up mandolin you'll know after a few months when you get better and you start playing in more jams and taking breaks whether it'll be a keeper or an unloader. Sounds like it's a whole heck of alot better than my first mandolin.

For any aspiring bluegrasser, the harder it is to hear in jams and playing with others, the harder you'll pick and it will cause alot of tension cause you'll be fighting the instrument trying to hear it....tone has sooo many diff factors....but volume? It's either there or it's not with most mandolins....I need to know that I can hear it.

I have the problem of playing the strings really light. Since I'm unsure of what chord I need to play, I make it sound like I'm strumming with my fingers and not a pick. But when I am confident about the tune, I strum normal and you can definitely hear my mando through the crowd. When I hit the right chords, it sounds great. When I hit the wrong ones...well...it's not like the fiddle at least. But I'm happy with the volume level.
