Hi all,

I really don’t want to post my new material here if it’s become the sole elephant in the room. I do understand that my mandolin family playing is not your typical style for the instruments. I’m writing this as a serious question and don’t mind honest answers. Would you prefer if I only posted acoustic mandolin playing from here on out? Blessings

The site is Mando Hangout...
We are entitled to post any mando content that we wish.
Your content may not be to everybody's liking, but that's the way the world works.

Thanks a lot Joe! My only purpose in posting this was to be considerate of the community. I guess folks here by now know what to expect in terms of my sound — easy to just not listen to it.

My wife is a nurse with a good part of a MD under her belt. We were talking about the subject of music that works the brain— when the neurons are challenged, new synapses are formed. Just a thought,

Steven

Keep on posting what you want and what you like ! Some will like it and others not ! I prefer acoustic and old time and although your taste in music may not be mine I still enjoy listening to your interpretations ! You are very talented and I do listen to your pieces !

Thanks! Will do — I like a lot of music including some traditional tunes — just depends.

I'm late to the game, but I agree with Joe and Scott. And I listen as well.

Keep it up!

Steven, It's no secret that the Mando Hang has been limping along for a while. Very nice of you to be considerate and bring up this topic. All the of the responses have been positive and respectful, which is great. Those are folks active on the site. Anything thing Mando-related is welcomed, doesn't matter the style.

The potential problem I see is for folks visiting the site for the first time who are trying to decide whether or not to get involved. If the majority of videos are being posted by just one or two people, they probably won't feel like this is a site where a lot of back and forth and sharing is welcome. Those of us who are active, know different, but just describing what a casual visitor might sense. More people need to be posting videos so that yours seem to be just one of many being offered. I purposely am only posting about one a month even though I make a couple a week for this reason. Now, if that indeed is the answer, how do we get more folks to post their videos and discussion topics?

Steven Clarkson - Posted - 09/24/2021:  10:33:19

Eddie,

That’s a great point. I guess I felt that somehow I was helping the site by posting new material often. If I kept it down to once a month, that definitely makes sense to me. Thanks,

Steven

Eddie,

If you are doing 2 videos a week, I assume the ones not posted here are on your personal website. Guess I’ll do the same in order to give this site a more balanced feel,

Steven

Steven, My videos are on my YouTube Channel...there you try to build your "brand" to where you get subscribers that are interested in what it is you are putting out. Do you already have yours on YouTube? If you're really trying to "grow" you channel, you have to think like a person in marketing, "What can I do to reach more people and get more people involved with my videos?" Beyond the mandolin aspect of your videos, you have an inspirational element that you are going for. There might be a whole different market out there that is interested in the inspirational part that aren't active players.

The bottom line for the Mando Hangout is we've got to get more folks posting their videos and get folks involved in providing positive feedback and encouragement to one another. That give and take seems to be what keeps folks active and involved on music sites.

I agree Eddie — hopefully this site starts to get more traffic— have a great weekend!

Well, I have tried but I think hopeless ! :(

Steven Clarkson - Posted - 09/27/2021:  04:56:13

IMHO, nothing good is hopeless!

Everyone on this thread has helped to make this community better. I share Scott's frustration, but also Steve's hope for a richer MHO.

I have original compositions that need to be recorded; I really need to get on that.

Eddie Collins - Posted - 09/27/2021:  14:50:35

Patrick, This should be the place where you could even offer "work in progress." I write tunes all the time, but often don't flesh them out, so it'd be good to get feedback on that sort of thing.

yankees1 - Posted - 10/01/2021:  17:45:33

A LOT more activity back on the mandolincafe but I refuse to go back there ! Maybe an overhaul of the format of this forum with different rooms might create more interest and posts ! I really don't know !

Regardless of how busy this site is or will become, I know this is a welcoming community who leave any judgements back in the cobwebs of their mind. I think the site is setup well and how big your community by no means reflect the quality of those in it. Happy Thanksgiving everyone

I'll second that, Steven. Happy Turkey Day to all.

I waited weeks to see if anyone was going to post new material-- I'm certainly not trying to step on anyones content -- I just hope more folks start realizing that mando cafe doesn't have a monopoly with regards to mandolin related content

Right, you seem to be posting with a decent amount of time between posts. There just aren't others jumping in with other posts. It's weird, because today I also got a number of spam messages, which I've never had before.

Me as well-- really weird spam that doesn't relate to anything musical

I reported it to the moderator, hopefully, it'll be removed.
