Hey Patrick I saw your response and the other thread and I decided I wanted to start a new one.
I should be getting my Eastman overhaul Mandolin any day now. I am a soloist and I love playing Celtic and folk music. I am really wanting to get some Thomastikstrings on it and I was wondering if anybody here had any experience comments or opinions about them

Eastman 314, nice! I played one of those at a music shop in Tucson. I liked it, but lacked the cash at the time to make the purchase.
I have no intel on the Thomastiks, yet anyway. I'll be interested to see what others say...

My experience with Thomastiks: No. Just no.
Reasons not to buy:
- Expensive
- Tone killing strings
- Good luck when you break one
Reasons to buy:
- You do not play loud ever
- You want to feel like you play violin

I don’t know Thomas. The examples that I have seen (nothing in person) as well as the many, many testimonies that I have seen, particularly with oval holes, has got me pretty anxious to try it out.

Try them out and report back your findings here! It may actually improve the sound of an oval hole because the strings are so mello, and oval holes tend to have that deep low end.
I was a poor college kid when I tried Thomastiks and felt so cheated when I broke a string at the first gig I brought them to lol.

Ah, I get it. Ya, I’ll stick with the PB that it comes with at first, for a bit.
My first change will be Thomastik I am pretty sure. And when I do, I’ll certainly post about it.
