I found this old ad in a reprinted book from the early 1900s entitled "The Guitar and Mandolin" by Philip Bone. What I haven't found is very much about Clifford mandolins. I am especially curious about the holes on the side. I know that larger openings on modern guitars (like Michael Kelly Forte Port) are supposed to improve tone. Tiny holes like these seem to be far more decorative than functional. There is one for sale on eBay, and the openings are clear in photos there as well, though less decorative.
Any information on these Clifford mandos?
