Why do fake posts with commercial links persist on Mando Hangout???
It's getting ridiculous.

If you find spam, you can contact Eric and he can hide/delete them. Since there's no mods on here, admin. is the only one with the authority to do that.

You can also post about spam in the Website problems forum where Eric will see it and take action.

I have been using the "Report to Moderator" tool a lot. Not sure that works all that well...

Nothing in the way of contact has helped.

I think it may be time to exit... and warn others.
My gut feeling is that this medium is wide-open to invasion of personal pc's, etc.

I have been using the "Report to Moderator" link on all of these for months. It seems to have zero effect. I've sent money just to contribute; also paid 2% of a couple sales. I feel like I'm doing my part to try to make this website work, but the moderator seems to be completely detached. People are not going to log on here just to sort through daily and numerous spam posts. It can't be that hard to block these, since other websites do it effectively. Moderator, what can be done?

Generally, reported spam posts get automatically hidden, and the account automatically locked.

Are you seeing posts that are still visible even after you report them? If so, please share them here.

Spam and/or Phishing...

What I am finding are minimized (small font) links in fake posts.

These links lead to commercial sites, etc.

Here is one such link. I'll include a screenshot of the page as well.

scott-keever-seo.business.site/

FYI:  This "Horea Kaii" screen ID seems to have several fake posts (others which have disappeared as well)....

I can't see that any of the spam posts have been removed. For example, here is one that has had four spam posts today, and it has other posts going back to October (mandohangout.com/tab/browse.as...#comments). I check Mandolin Hangout (MH) everyday. In general, there are more spam posts than real posts, and I think that this drives away potential members of our online community.

The reality is that the vast majority of mandolin-related traffic goes through Mandolin Cafe. They have strengths (more traffic) and weaknesses (dominated by self-appointed, condescending experts), but MH can fill a different niche. For example, the "Sound Off" section is unique and people really enjoy it. Discussions are open and supportive. The Marketplace is getting some more traffic, which is self-reinforcing and should generate some cash flow, which provides incentive for the site owner to devote his time.

I try to start some discussions and contribute where I can. I've posted some instruments for sale, and sold a couple. I traded for a couple of interesting new mandolins over Christmas; maybe I'll post some pics. I'd love to see what everybody else is playing and what they think of them. Anyway, maybe we can brainstorm and come up with some ways to increase participation and traffic through MH. Ideas?

Yooper, you state the situation perfectly, not only abut MH spam, but about MH and MC differences.

I try to post often here as well, as do the other posters in this thread.  I am grateful for this community, as it is far more supportive than any other online platform.

As for ideas, I'd be willing to try just about anything.  Tune of the Week has been done to death.  Giveaways are costly, and don't exactly build useful content.  Less spam would definitely be a great start though.
