Just a reminder to everyone that the DEET in mosquito repellent melts instrument finishes. This is something that some of us have learned the hard way. :) (Thankfully, that was long long ago, in a galaxy far far away).

Good reminder. I've never actually seen it, but I have heard the stories.
Some sweaty people have not made it beyond the sweat-ruining and leveled up to DEET-melting, and tend to avoid taking their instruments outside when its super hot.
Not me, of course...other people. Just sayin'.

About 10 years ago I just got my new mando [ Hand Made Grave Creek "A"] and was outside at the local park for a jam. The park has a small lake and after sunset [ jams are 7-9pm] we get bugs. They LOVE me- lots of bites so I sprayed an insect repellent with DEET- and yes it stripped the finish off the side and part of the back. I had to have it refinished- Never sounded as good after that. DEET is as good as Stripease- to remove finishes. Take the bites- Wear long sleeves- DONT EVER USE DEET around instruments

FWIW: Since the 60's, I have used Vitamin B-12 whenever headed for a hunting or fishing trip where insects are an issue. First an injection in advance, followed by a simple pill regimen while on the trip.
Doesn't work for everyone (something to do with metabolism, etc). But it sure works for me... even in the tundra of the Arctic Circle where every step in the warm months produces a tornado of black flies!
