Hi all.
Iam looking at buying an Eastwood airline octave mandola. Its tuned C G D A. C.0.36 G 0.26. D 0.16 E 0.10. i play octave mandolin tuned GDAE. Does anybody know if i can restring from CGDA to GDAE and if so what gauge strings would be best.

If I'm understanding you right, you want to change the standard octave mandolin tuning from __________________ to _____________ and you're wondering what the proper gauge strings would be.
I'm guessing that the string companies have already figured the gauges out for you. Just Google the appropriate strings and the gauges will be listed on the set.
If you check around, you may find slight differences in gauges from different brand makers, but it would be within certain limits.
That would give you a very real and quick idea of what is actually available.
That's where I would start...

A second thought just occurred...
If you like your current gauges, think about this:
You currently have:
C G D A
You want:
G D A E
Line them up and you've got:
C G D A
G D A E
So, three of you gauges will be the same as you already have (G, D & A)...
Again, pre-made sets available from the various string companies will tell you what the next gauge will be.
Your nut and bridge may need to be re-filed as well, if you're going to larger gauge strings...

Hi just an update. Eastwood have been really good. they said when they do their presale set up they will restring the mandola to GDAE tuning for me.
