Due to a thumb injury I can no longer play the banjo, but I can hold a pick just fine. I'm looking for a good F-model instrument in the three to four thousand dollar range. Any recommendations? Thanks

Thanks Tom, I'll look into your recommendations. There are no stores in my town that carry anything but low end mandos, so your advice is most appreciated

Music Folk in St. Louis has a mandolin 'wall', that usually has a good selection across the range of what's available.
I worked there for several years in sales and 10 years in teaching...
Andy Ploof is the owner. He's a nice guy and a master picker of guitar (flatpicking), mandolin (bluegrass and Irish), banjo (bluegrass AND old time clawhammer) and fiddle (multiple styles)...
Andy is usually off on Wednesdays, but there Mon through Saturday otherwise.
