You can probably tell by my tab output here on the MandoHangout that I've been feeling pretty darned good. Last year this time, my heart condition had worsened after having congenital congestive heart failure since February of 2007. The heart failure itself is what brought me to tabbing in the first place for the Banjo Hangout and later the MandoHangout. I had to leave a truck driving job in Illinois because of the heart issue. That left me with 'way too much time' on my hands. I started tabbing according to the requests I saw on the Banjo Hangout in February 2007. No one seemed to be addressing the non-bluegrass requests such as Beatles music for the banjo, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, etc., so, I made it my business to do that very thing.

I was fairly new to Tabledit (I'd used it for less than a year at that point), so there was a lot of learning in front of me. I had taught guitar, mandolin and 5-string banjo in music stores in and around St. Louis for close to 30 years at that point and it was a major blessing in my life to be able to continue doing something in the field of music.

At any rate, things went along pretty well, to the point that I started my own site, BanjoTom2.com and then later changed it to BanjoTom2. ORG.

That kept me plenty busy for years in a row...

I felt like I needed to start developing more mando tabs for my small, but growing population of mandolin students, so I started working on that and posting the results to the MandoHangout. My own site is busy enough and dedicated to the banjo, so I wanted an outlet that was mandolin-only.

I always liked the format of the BanjoHangout and the MandoHangout didn't seem to have enough contributors of mandolin tabs, so I busied myself with that task beginning in September of 2016.

My heart doc had been harping on me to get a defibrillator/pacemaker combo installed for 3.5 years. I didn't want to take the big step of adding 'electronics' to myself, so I continually put it off until it absolutely had to be done. In early August of 2017, I had the defibrillator/pacemaker installed and things started getting better almost immediately.

My health has improved so well that it' almost as though I never had a heart issue at all.

Still gotta take the heart meds and make occasional visits to the heart docs office for computer outputs from the machinery in my chest, but it's easy stuff.

It's 2019 now and I look forward to spending another year contributing mandolin tabs to here on the MandoHangout.

Mandolin Peace,

Tom Arri, alias MandoTom (and BanjoTom2)...
