Classic Bluegrass Movie Launches New Website

Restoration Plans Underway for Film Made at Historic, 1971  Festival in NC

Albert Ihde and Ellen Pasternack announced today the launch of their website for the feature film, Bluegrass Country Soul, which stars such bluegrass icons as  Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Chubby Wise, Jimmy Martin, J.D. Crowe, the Osborne Brothers, and many, many more. The feature-length movie was made during Carlton Haney's legendary,1971 Labor Day weekend Bluegrass Festival in Camp Springs, NC, and is currently undergoing a digital restoration prior to the release of a new, collector's edition box-set.

The web address is: bluegrasscountrysoul.com

The website has film clips, photos, a list of the musicians, reviews, and a store, where fans may purchase a unique gift for bluegrass music lovers: Bluegrass Country Soul Playing Cards. There is a  different, still frame from the movie on the back of each of the 54 cards in the deck. Profits from the sale of these cards will help to defray the costs of making a digital, archival copy of the movie, which will be donated to the permanent collection of the  Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum in Owensboro, KY.

Subscribers to the BGCS Newsletter will receive announcements with interviews and production updates. Subscribers will be the first to learn how they can have their names in the closing credits of this legacy edition of the film, which will be shown at the museum and will be included in the special edition box-set.

Albert Ihde produced and directed this bluegrass movie along with his partners Robert Leonard and Robert Henninger. Bob Kaylor was the director of photography, John Dildine recorded the sound, and Joel Jacobson was the editor and designer of the opening titles.

Ihde says he made Bluegrass Country Soul "... to introduce a general movie audience to the music and to re-create the enthusiasm and joy" he experienced when he attended his first bluegrass festival. Time/Life Music released the film on DVD in 2006, but the DVDs are sold out and out of print.

This time, Ihde says they "will restore the movie so it may be seen in the same wide-screen format in which it was originally shown in movie houses." Additionally, there will be enhanced, surround sound.
