Based on the amount of discussions that go on on the other Hangouts, we mandolin players do more playing and less talking. (-:

As it SHOULD be, right? ;)
I spent many years on the BHO tab request forum and came to the conclusion that every minute spent on a computer is a minute NOT SPENT practicing!
Everywhere I go, I see kids, teenagers and adults alike with their noses buried in a smartphone...
In certain retail outlets where I am shopping, I see employees (mostly younger folks) with their noses in their smartphones...
Think of all the hours spent just in this country alone of smartphone time...
And think about this:
If they'd had smartphones in his time, would Beethoven have written so many significant works?
Apply that to every major composer of any instrument...
Apply that to Bill Monroe as a young man...
Would BG music have been invented if Bill had his nose in a smartphone INSTEAD of pursuing his musical interests?
Personally, I'm glad smartphones and computers are a relatively recent phenomenon...
Well, it's time to get back to... eh, hem... practicing!

Hello Mandolin players!
I am thinking of buying a friend of mine, who has had some hard times lately a mandolin, she is a very accomplished musician so a need it to be good quality but price is also an issue.
As a person she is not a flashy lady, I believe she would more appreciate a good sounding instrument over all the flash.
She plays old town music, and blue grass, and I would describe that the songs she writes are more "pretty" than anything.
She is a very strong Banjo player and constantly mixes Scruggs, Reno, and the Melodic styles into the same song.
I hope this might give you an Idea of the type of instrument that might fit her.
I am also hoping that this will be the instrument she keeps for years.
So I have hopefully scaled it down to two different ones.

Could someone please chime in here as I would like to pull the trigger this weekend
