Hi folks, need some information on this mandolin. I've looked around some and think it is a Lyon and Healy Washburn Chicago style B. No label inside but a couple of numbers. On a block in one of the points is 1487 this is stamped ink the other is in pencil 4944 under the sound hole. The bridge is not correct tuners have been replaced and tailpiece cover if this is a style B is not original. Any help with information and what it might be worth would be great Thanks

I can't add anything to your assumptions, which I think are right on the money by the way.  Looks like a Lyon and Healy style B - having the  two point body without the scroll headstock, etc., etc..  Does it have the knee rest on the pickguard side?



A quick perusal of the Washburn book does not come up with a match on those two numbers but I'd guess the #1487 might be a model number.  The model numbers I've seen are more like 1581-1583.  The book shows serial numbers like 1422, 1430 for mandolas.  So the sales nomenclature might be style  A,B,C and the model numbers something else like 1487.   Who knows?   The #4944 could be a work number for that particular mandolin going through the build process.  But that's just a guess.
