Greetings from Southern Finland. I'm curious to here if you have info of this Weymann mandolin that my banjo student is willing to sell.
When was this made, what is the value of this kind of instrument and how well known these Weymanns are?
Everything you can tell me is valuable.

Here is a short company history. The mandolin appears to be a solid mid to upper range production from the Philadelphia company. If you decide to purchase use a light gauge string a .10 "E" string type set. The flat topped mandolins were braced for the lighter type string. According to the article a model , maybe slightly fancier than this one , was selling for thirty-five dollars in 1910. At that period in time a figure not to be considered chump change. On Ebay, Weyman mandolins are priced anywhere from 135.00$ to 750.00$. If I was interested in buying a mandolin of this type I would go as high as a 200.00$ offer if there are no needed repairs or flaws. luck .. R/

What you show here is a "Mandolute" ...not a mandolin. The label correctly identifies it as such.
The serial number places this one mid-to-late 1916.
The second numer (15) is the style = Style 15.
I believe that may be an original case.
Some 15 years ago, I inherited (from an elderly Italian friend) an early 1926 Mandolute [Style 60]. It is ornate and sounds beautiful.
Heed Richard's advice given here and use light gauge strings omly. Anything heavier will hurt the top, and rather quickly.
