Hello,

Are there any good exercises I can do to strengthen my ring and pinky fingers while away from my mandolin?

Thank you,

Sure ..... you can spend a bunch or money on one of those fancy doodads advertised ion magazines or you can buy a small rubber ball. Make sure you exercise your fingers one at a time even though the ring and pinky fingers are operated by the same musculature. It is also easy to push each of your fingers against your thumb and hold them for a count. No "stuff " needed at all. One of the reasons I love playing a mandolin is the very portability of the instrument. I generally take at least a mandolin when I travel. R/

A good finger exercise is to place your hand palm down on a flat surface and try lifting one finger at a time while leaving the others flat.   You'll find that the ring is usually the most difficult digit to lift without moving either the middle or pinkie.
