I have a Dayton mandolin, all the parts are there with a few small things to work on before re-assembling the mandolin.  The mandolin has the aluminum head made of approximately .020" aluminum.  The original head is a bit dented, as you can see from the photo, and I have been able to burnish out most of the bumps and dents.  I'm considering replacing the aluminum head with one I would make of .0005" shim stainless steel.  Does anyone have any background on the Dayton and its use of the aluminum head on the mandolins?  I can use the original head, there is nothing really wrong with it aside from the cosmetics.  I don't need to remove the flesh hoop from the original head, and would still preserve it, as I can make the same flesh hoop out of square brass stock, which was what was used with the original head.
