I am looking to possibly bid on this mandolin on eBay which ends tomorrow. The serial number is 051219-2 F. The gold sticker states Saga. I'm unsure of the year. Is this one of the better or lesser quality instruments of this model depending on the year. I lost my mandolin in 1995 in a fire. Any help and advise in whether to buy is appreciated.

This information may be too late but I'd be a little leery about spending that kind of money on a mandolin without playing it first or buying it from a very well-known dealer. Generally, eBay is a good place to buy a lot of things but the sound, quality, playability, etc. of a mandolin is a subjective thing. What I like may sound terrible to you. Buying a mandolin is not like buying a box of 10-penny nails or a Blue Chip pick. Those items are pretty specific. A mandolin has many variables and (are you ready for this?) those variables vary between the various potential buyers.
