Hi

I need some hands on advice regarding these three reasonably priced mandos:  With regard to build, fit, finish, playability.

1-Washburn MS3W

2-Gretsch Park Ave. G9350

3-Ibanez M700

anyone?

I think all three that you listed are quality products. If you ask 15 people which is best, you'll get at least 20 opinions. All three of the brands have good reputations but, having said that, all three will also occasionally have a "lemon."

My advice is to look at and play all A models you can. If you are in or within a reasonable distance of a big city, check out the music stores an see what they offer.

I've seen $5000 mandolins that were only so-so in sound quality. I've also seen $100 Rogue mandolins that sounded great. It's not a matter of one or another being the single instrument you want. Rather, it's the one that, first, sounds the best. Then you worry about looks;

I've tried the Gretsch and the Ibanez.  The Gretsch is superior, IMHO.  I just might have to pick one of those up.  Purists will dislike the Gretsch, and it is an F style with an oval hole.  However, in that price range, you can't beat the tone or the finish.

There's nothing wrong with an F style mandolin with an oval hole. I have a 1915 Gibson F-4 with an oval hole. It plays and sounds wonderful. I use it in my gigs now. It doesn't have to have "F" holes for the sound to come out. Look at the guitars.
