My friend has recently (sadly) died and left his collection of mandolins/banjos/fiddles to his son. Strangely, his son has zero interest in music and he has asked me for advice in disposing of the 61 instruments! I have suggested that the easiest way would be to sell them via Auction, so he has contacted 1818 Auctioneers of Kendal, Cumbria, UK, who will include the collection in their next musical instrument auction .. 1818 offer internet and telephone bidding. The son has kept a couple of instruments in memory of his father but he is quite adamant that the remainder must be sold, even if they don't meet the reserve!
Meanwhile I have been busy cataloguing the instruments, consisting of 25 Mandolins, 23 Banjos, and 13 Fiddles. There is a variety of instruments within each category to suit any price range, and many of the mandolins and banjos appear to be almost as new .. it is doubtful if my friend ever even played some of them!
I thought that forum members might be interested in the Auction as I feel sure that there will be many bargains to be had on the day .. I know for sure that I shall be amongst the bidders.
I will gladly list any category of the instruments if it is of interest to anyone.
