This is not my mandolin, but perhaps someone here is flush enough to consider it.

What would be a fair price for a Loar? Chris Theile paid $200,000 for his eight years ago. Mandolin Brothers were askig $250,000 for one, but lowered the price to $175,000.

A fair price ..... A damaged one at Carter's is priced at around 80.000$. The one of a kind A5 I heard rumor was priced at 300,000 $ at one point. Eight years ago the mandolin market was slightly higher in prices than it is now. Maybe as much as 10%. Though it is in recovery. I think the Fern Loar at Elderley Music was priced at 225,000 $ at one point. I guess the fair price is whatever the seller can get somebody to pay it for one. 175,000 $ would be a " good " round figure price. I have seen several at that price point. There are rarely more than a handful on the market at any time which also effects price. Condition, provenance, OHSC , all factor in to a final costing. . ...not that I am in the market..... R/

The average range right now is $175k - $190k. Anything immaculate in appearance and all-original are $200k plus.
Chris' is an exceptional specimen, and he had the money, so $200k was a decent deal.
The one at Mandolin Bros sold for $160k. It would have gone higher but the owner asked Stan Jay to take the offer. They were in need of the income and did not want to hold out any longer.
The $225k Loar at Elderly has been there for quite some time now.
I believe the "damaged" Loar at Carter's is $89k? It's more than just damaged; it's a rough one.
The other two they have are both 1923. The Feb 6, '23 ($190k) is almost a twin to Joe Val's Feb 26, '23 / #72207. Their July 9, '23 ($175k) and its case are both quite rough around the edges, but the sound might be worth the money to some players.
Any others I've seen lately are all closer to $200k and up.
