Hi. I am new here. I am a banjo player looking to expand my horizons. I am interested in learning to play the mandolin. I know this is has probably be ask at least a few times, so here we go again. I am looking for a beginners mandolin and until I am sure that this is a path I would like to pursue, I don't want to tie up a lot of money. I am looking to spend between 300.00 to 400.00. I know from buying banjos that this is a entry level instrument .All suggestions and help would be appreciated. I have looked at Loar, Kentucky, Morgan Monroe, and Eastman.
Thanks

You will find most of the popular support in that price range will go to Kentucky and Eastman. I would add Big Muddy / Mid-Missouri to that list, if you don't have to have the scroll and the f-holes.

A used A model Kentucky ....... do make sure that the instrument has a good setup.... the differences between an instrument that is versus one that is not well setup is paramount .. with the shorter string length and dual courses a mandolin can become difficult to play .... luck R/
