Whenever you see TMZ come on tv, go practice. IT helps in 2 ways. Practice time and what useful info can we possibly get from TMZ?

You are on the right track. I took it a step further and chunked the TV four years ago. It is now just this strange distracting object I see in some bars and restaurants which every one stares at when not fiddling with their iGizmo.

I use my TV....70 inch flat screen...it's hooked to the net so I can watch Netflix etc, gaming consoles, and I can watch DVDs. Everybody has their distractions and uses for their gizmos. I just find commercials too tedious, so I got rid of cable.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the use of media, just how it is used and how it impacts your activities of daily living.
If it hypnotizes a person so they can't live up to the demands outside of TV watching, then sure, probably should get rid of it.
Being a Luddite isn't necessary, just a little bit of maturity to balance your life.

I'd rather watch two "bugs" (I know they aren't really bugs.) fight on YouTube than anything that comes across the network telescreen.
These two were at it in my ceiling fan...

Everybody needs a hobby suited to their particular abilities and limitations.

A TV channel...celebrity news mostly, if I recall
About all I watched is CBS for Big Bang Theory and AMC for The Walking Dead.

TMZ seems to think it's a very important tv show that people should be interested in. I see as a lesson on how to be a papaRATsee, or what ever they call those lame destroyers of healthy living. Seems to me I gave up on watching hollywood back in the 60's. Life itself was far more interesting, and still is. Beware people who attempt to seduce you into how to live your life, and what is truly of value. Tv really is commercials, and news propaganda, and too much of the world turns off it's brain and allows it to continue. It is poison.
Having said that, I do have a few fav shows such as "Person of Interest" (I live for that) and any network that features FC, the beautiful game, preferably English or European football, aka "soccer".
I have no use for NFL or NHL. (especially the lame propaganda that if you are Canadian, you have to love hockey - it's more like watching wrestling to me. It has no heart, only hype. And they make slaves of children. this will not make me popular - I quit hockey at age 15 cos it wasn't FUN anymore). (If they took the deliberate violence out of the game, no one would watch it - which is really scary). Sorry if I offend any Canadians; but I am one, so figure that). I consider hockey to be enormously sexist. Getting too political here; I will shutup. Delete this if you deem it offensive.
Since I acquired my new mando, I have often turned off tv and radio, etc., just so could pik my mando, and see where that takes me. It hasn't failed me yet. ;)
So I second the motion from the OP. ;)
Also, as a point of interest, I don't have tiny little electronic iDevice and don't do Fbook either - or any of that trash. My impriession of all that is that people should be eternally grateful FOR LESS. pathetic.
Also Fbook is like "Guess what kind of chocolate cake I had: (duh) "chocolate?). Training to be an idiot. yahooo. omg. Make it stop.
end of rant = lol.

There's a difference between living simple and just being simple.

TMZ is TV? I only thought it was one of those snarky websites I avoid. Of course, I don't watch TV now. I think I outgrew it around 2002. Much better to spend my time reading, writing, singing, playing, photographing, cooking, being intimate, building stuff, doing stuff. Watching TV ain't "doing stuff"; it's letting stuff be done to your head. (cf McLuhan.)
My reaction to TV: finish my meal and leave a nice tip. My reaction to radio: If I hear a good tune, grab the nearest instrument and try to play along. Maybe pull over onto the highway shoulder first.
