I'm continuing my trip through La La Land by exposing myself to other mandolin pickers.  I'll stay on my meds so there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm old enough to remember when Harry Truman was president. Our first TV was a Bendix and we put the plastic sheet on the screen that was blue at the top and green at the bottom.  I used to plow behind two mules (Kit and Pat) in the Ozarks of Arkansas but I ultimately retired from police work in Columbus, GA, in 2007 after 32 years.

I play in a small country trio and it provides pretty good pocket money each week.

At the present time, I only have only two mandolins:  A Breedlove Quartz FF and a Breedlove Legacy FF. The Legacy is my favorite and the one I use when I perform.  The Quartz is also an excellent instrument.  Obviously, I prefer Breedloves.

I don't know that I can add a whole lot but I am hoping to learn from others.

Lest I be accused of false advertising, I've got to tell everyone that the mandolin in my picture is not a Breedlove. That pic was cropped from one of our publicity photos and I think that mandolin is a Michael Kelly. My main instrument at the time was the Breedlove Quartz. For those who don't know, the Quartz has a natural finish. I used my backup MK because it had the traditional look of a mandolin and I didn't want people to ask what kind of instrument I was carrying. Lord knows I get enough "What is that?" questions anyway. The MK was great but it just wasn't for me and I sold it. I prefer the wider fingerboard and playability of the Breedloves.

Congratulations!I am also a newbie as of last month. I retired September 2013 and decided to learn a new instrument and found an inexpensive laminated wood A mandolin in a pawn shop in mint condition (old dust and strings). It is a hoot to play and doesn't have that @#$%^%$ B string. My advice is to stay away from these good folks.....Most have a very communicable case of MAS and an obsession with 7 notes, kindling, and wire. I already am looking at an upgrade and a group! Stay well and read the posts...lots of great advice.

I see we are about the same age.  I just turned 70 on March 30th. 

My son, Clay, has a Breedlove that he got from his friend and mentor, the late Willie P. Bennett.  I'm not sure what model it is.  Is this anything like yours?
