I have used a Shadow SH 926 repalcement bridge pickup that I bought second-hand on Ebay, it worked well enough, was very convenient, and was removable in as much as you could swap the bridge out with the original, and that no modification to the mandolin was required.  But in my opinion, you will never achieve a satisfactory acoustic tone with a peizo pickup.

Recently I have changed to an t.bone Ovid system clip on condenser mic this is from Thomann a German online retainer and is similar in style to the DPA 4099, but considerably cheaper.  This gives a much better acoustic sound, but because it is a microphone, I do now find myself having to consider the issue of feedback a lot more that I used to. I am not sure if this is available outside of Europe though.
