I'm a mandolin newbie and I can't seem to find an answer to a simple question. Why do some mandolins like the Kentucky KM-650 have a white line on each side of the neck at the 15th fret and other models (like the Kentucky KM-630) don't? Seems like this line appears on more expensive mandolins, but does it have anything to do with construction or ease of playing?

THANKS!

It has to do with the construction method of attaching the neck. I don't see where it has anything to do with ease of playing.

It is called binding and it is merely cosmetic.
