While jumping around on YouTube, I found an incredible young talent, Sarah Jarosz, who plays clawhammer banjo, mandolin and an instrument that looks like a fine guitar. It is an eight string double course Instrument that she plays like someone who's played forty years but she can't be 25 years old herself. She writes most of her own music. Youtube has her playing with Alison K. and many other A list artists.
Anyone know more about this young artist? Doe's anyone know the maker of her "guitar" mandolin?

I recently discovered Sarah Jarosz when she offered one of her albums as a free download. She is a wonderful talent and I really love her music and writing. The 8-stringed guitar-like instrument she plays is a octave mandolin built by Fletcher Brock. The album I have is called "Follow Me Down" and it has one song called "My Muse" that beautifully displays the sound of the Octave Mandolin. There are also YouTube videos of her playing that song as well. I just found out that her most recent album is being offered on Amazon as a download for just $6.99.

I have seen Sarah playing a six string banjo with similar configuration to the one Sonny Osborne used to play. I'm not sure if she plays it exclusively now or whether she uses a 5-string too.
