Anyone interested in Learning a Little OLD TIME MANDOLIN?

Over at the Fiddle Hangout a "Virtual Fiddle Festival" idea has been going on for awhile. The idea is that each month a tune or two is picked from The Old Time Jam Site oldtimejam.com/Jam.html and some info is posted and through the month folks post mp3's or Youtubes of themselves playing those tunes under the thread.

You can post yourself playing it solo, or with backing tracks from the Old Time Jam Site, or however you want. The point is really just to learn some new tunes and encourage each other and pass on tips etc.  All in good fun. A learning experience.

Not a lot of traffic here, but it could work.

For this month, November 2013, I'll throw out two tunes.

The first is "Shove that Pigs Foot a Little Further into the fire" . This tune is one of the ones on this months Fiddle Hangouts thread,so may as well.

for the second tune, how about a tune from the Fiddle Hangout from a few months back, "Julianne Johnson".

Both tunes can be found on the Old Time Jam Site for backing tracks. ("Shove that pigs foot" is in G, "Julianne Johnson" is in D).

Come on folks! Lets put the Mandolin back in Old Time Music and learn a few new/old tunes. Record yourselves and post however you can.

Here's a version of Julianne Johnson I recorded this morning.  I may refine it a bit later. I'll see about getting Pigs Foot recorded this weekend.

I like "D" tunes like Julianne Johnson that let me drone a little on the D string and A string and on the F# on the E.

Thanks for posting it. It's inspiring. I've been working pigs foot on  fiddle, and haven't really tried it a lot on mandolin, though it seems like it would make a good mandolin tune.  I'll post a version up sometime soon.
