I've had the Dorado F model for six or seven years and have never had any problems, it's always in tune. One of my friends bought an A model off Jeff a couple of years ago. It's very pleasent to look at and has a tone of it's own. When he first got it I hated to put it down once I started playing it. Jeff does a good set up. The action of the A was right on. If you have a chance to play one, do so.

The new A models are made with European Spruce tops, tone bar braced versus x-braced, ebony fretboard, ebony bridge...in short a real pro-level mando; and the price of around $800 can't be beat.
These are some of the best deals going...I've got a 2012 F5 Studio model that is a "whomper" with tremendous bark, volume, and real good tone with that "pop" when you chop chords.
I'm lookin at getting the A model myself these days...

I have a A5 from the current 2013 line. They're being made by a different maker then the previous models. The new models seem to be much more consistent than the previous years. A good friend of mine is a JB dealer and I have been able to play 4 of them. All were excellent and, as mentioned above, are very good pro-level mandolins. I use flatwound strings on mine so I get some more warmth and a drier tone than if I used bronze strings. The other 3 models I played were all different models and owned by working pros. Two of them are F5 Tradition models and the other is a F5 Special. I can't speak highly enough about them. Every time I pick mine up I'm still amazed that I got it for under $700. Workmanship is very good and the setup was first rate. I actually had to raise my action because it was too low for my playing style and it still plays very smooth and easy. The A5 is one heck of a bargain.
