Hi. Does anyone know anything about the history of a Kay mandolin of this "vintage"? lethbridge.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and...448886199 I don't play mandolin (I'm more of a wanna be fiddler) but am curious about messing around with something inexpensive that I could easily get my money back from when I crashed. I don't figure its a Loar but if it playable AND has some low value for collectors, I'd have a look. Thanks

It has virtually no value to collectors. They aren't very good mandolins or rather they were pretty crummy mandolins and for not much difference in price you could pick up a brand new Gretsch "New Yorker" or one of the low end A model Kentuckys that would service you better as an instrument to learn on. Buy from someone that sets it up.

Thanks, Ben. Yeah, I'd rather spend $150 on a Gretsch or Kentucky. They just don't show up around here very often
