I'm a new member and just came across this sweet mando and  would love to know more about her. Very nice voice but no markings anywhere that I can find. The pick guard is inlaid flush into the top. It has Deluxe tuners and looks like rosewood back and sides w/ spruce top? This is a very clean piece w/ no obvious repairs ever. Seems like a unique instrument but I'd appreciate any comments.

It's called a "mandolinetto" probably, nah, more than probably, American made (just from he look of it and the Waverly Cloud tailpiece). These were popular from about 1890 to 1920 and yours has the look of that era. Often they were Brazilian back and sides with a spruce top and yours appears to be that. There were a lot of manufacturers of those both in the Northeast and in Chicago so it would be hard to say who made that thing but it looks nicely made. It's possible that that is real tortoise for the pick guard but they have been making good fake for a long long time and so good that it's hard to tell. Not great value for those unless it's something like a Howe-Orme that have a select group of fans or collectors. I don't think yours is a Howe- Orme unfortunately. It's a nice little rig, enjoy!
