Hi all,
Unfortunately i am not in a position to try many (if any) decent mandolins out prior to buying them, so my purchase of my first mandolin will be on recommendations and reviews only. Not ideal but i think thats my only option right now.
I really like the sound of the Loar 600, but am looking for the best place to buy them for price and setup. I'd rather not pay out a fortune for something that doesn't come already professionally setup, but i'm not really that clued up about where to get these in the UK.
That raises another question, would i better off buying these from the US, or after customs and tax and everything will it work out the same price or more? Also, might sound a silly question but would the setup still be ok after a long journey from the US if i went down that route?
If you're wondering why i'm thinking of the Loar LM 600, like i say i just really like the sound once they've been set up properly and would like something that i won't have to replace in a few months once i get better in my technique. I do want an F hole scroll type, sorry if that sounds a bit superficial and i know you can get more mandolin for your buck in an A style, i just really like the look of the F's.
If anyone has any advice then please throw it this way, it would be most appreciated.

I don't know the duty and import cost structure. Your post office likely can assist.
I do know that I regularly send instruments to the UK, with folks indicating they can't get them there, including The Loar series mandolins. I don't know whether that's true or not.
Ask on mandolincafe, too.

Thank you, there does seem to be a shortage in the UK when it comes to Loar mandolins, at least it looks that way to a newcomer like myself.
You're already top of my list if i decide to go via the US, heard lots of positive things about you. :)
