Does any one know anything about the Flatiron Festival F's that are being marketed by places like
Guitar Center and Janet Davis for $799??? I know they are mad by Gibson in China and I can find the
specs and everything but dont know how playable they are. Guitar center does not stock them and i am leary of
buying something i cant play first even if they do have a money back guarantee.

Well, Michael, Make sure that it has been well and properly set up. Get a mandolin player to look at it and play it. Put a better set of strings on it when you get it. When changing strings keep in mind that the bridge is not glued inplace and when it gets moved it has to be reset accurately to have anywhere near correct intonation. An entry level instrument or a high dollar one both have these things in common. Get yourself a large heavy flatpick, you will need it. Enjoy ... I picked up a mandolin thirty odd years ago and still only put it down to pickup a guitar or fiddle... R/

It's been my experience that imports can be hit or miss.
I would never buy one of these Chinese Flatirons without playing first, guarantee or not.
IMO, it'd be best, if you're going to go Chinese imports, to purchase one from a dealer who personally inspects and sets up each imported mando, like Steve here on the hangout. I'm sure there are others too who do the same.
