How does the tone and volume compare to the old Gibson Snakeheads?
Big Joe - Posted - 02/15/2011: 05:34:39
This mandolin sounds very similar in the bottom end to the Gibson ovals... more like the snakeheads than some of the others. It has a bit more in the mid and upper registrers due to the way it is designed. It is essentially a modern Gibson A model with an oval hole rather than F holes. It is better balanced tonally than many of the old A models with oval holes. It has been basically unplayed since it was new. It is still in new condition and needs to be played. When it opens it will be very similar to the older Gibby's tonally.
Mark... The price just went down. Now you can get it instead of a lottery ticket :) .
