Are the dots in "The Loar" LM-600 fretboard actually MOPearl or are they MOPlastic? I ask because I like abalone dots. I've replaced the dots on a cheap banjo fretboard, it was easy, the MOPlastic came right out, essentially it melted right out, when hit by the dremel it billowed out like cotton candy. A drop of super glue in the hole, a tap with a small hammer and the new dots dropped in beautifully, no sanding or leveling needed. I think abalone dots would be quite attractive in the LM-600. I don't think it would hurt resale.

To the best of my knowledge they are MOP and not plastic. Mine sure seem to be, anyway.

Could be, probably is, but some of that MOPlastic sure looks and feels like real MOP. I actually thought the MOPlastic on my banjo neck was real until I hit it with the dremel. POOOOFFFF lots of snowy white plastic cotton candy showed me to be wrong though.
