Okay, I'm NOT a huge blues fan, maybe because growing up in Northern California in the 70s and even 'til now, the blues were almost all anyone would play! After a while....
Yet when I do get calls to jam with various bands, invariably they want me to play bluesy stuff, so of course, I do. And I have my own approach to soloing in this motif, but I'm curious about you guys. Do you use a straight pentatonic blues scale when you take leads? Or do you tend to throw in Mixolydian stuff? Any jazz guys who venture out and pick out a diminished scale over the dominant seventh? How about some chromatic notes amongst the chord changes? I'm curious.

I found some PDF's with jazz chords sequences, scales and riffs and many other things for mandolin, but deleted them a long time ago... I think I found them in Mandolin Cafe, take a look there and maybe you'll find 'em

Blue notes: flatted 3rds, 5ths, 7ths, skip the 2nd and 6th. Blues scale is 1 3b 4 5b 5 7b 8. But you can sprinkle the blue notes as you will, just don't over do it.

I tend to use pentatonics with passing notes or harmonic minor.

Have you tried doing harmonies? Try little things like the root with the 7 or the root with the 6th, 9th, 13th to mix in with your single notes to ad interest. Try these same tones with a 5th or 3rd also. Example: the 3 an 7 or the 5 and 7 as harmonies instead of the the root. Or try the 3rd with them.
